In short
If you hold both DEGIRO and Interactive Brokers — the most common continental-EU pairing — StackViewer connects to each through SnapTrade using read-only OAuth, then merges them into a single portfolio in your chosen base currency (usually EUR). You get one time-weighted return across the two accounts, a combined risk profile (Sharpe, Sortino, max drawdown and more), and a single dividend calendar, instead of two apps and a mental sum. Both connections are read-only and free on the starter plan.
Why so many EU investors hold both
DEGIRO and Interactive Brokers are the default pairing for continental-European investors, and it is a rational one. They are held together precisely because their fee structures pull in opposite directions. DEGIRO is built around low, flat commissions and a genuinely simple bill — typically a couple of euros on European stocks, free ETFs on its Core Selection list (conditions apply), and crucially no inactivity fee and no withdrawal fee (as of 2026-06-09, thepoorswiss.com). That makes DEGIRO the comfortable home for EUR-denominated European stocks and ETFs you intend to sit on for years.
Interactive Brokers wins on the thing DEGIRO is weakest at: currency. IBKR's FX conversion runs at roughly 0.2 basis points — about 0.002% — versus DEGIRO's AutoFX charge of around 0.25% (as of 2026-04-27, marcoschwartz.com). On a €10,000 purchase of US stock that is roughly €0.20 at IBKR against roughly €25 at DEGIRO. IBKR also reaches 170 markets across 40 countries and offers fractional shares (as of 2026-08-07, interactivebrokers.com). So the common split is simple: European buy-and-hold on DEGIRO, US and global multi-currency exposure on IBKR. Two brokers, one portfolio — which is exactly the problem StackViewer exists to solve.
The fee difference that leads people to hold both
| Factor | DEGIRO | Interactive Brokers |
|---|---|---|
| FX / currency conversion | ~0.25% AutoFX | ~0.2 bps (~0.002%) — wins |
| Market reach | ~45 exchanges | 170 markets, 40 countries — wins |
| Fractional shares | No | Yes — wins |
| Inactivity fee | None — wins | None (fee removed on newer accounts) |
| European stock/ETF simplicity | Flat low commission, simple bill — wins | Tiered pricing, steeper learning curve |
| Beginner-friendly UI | Clean, simple — wins | Powerful but intimidating |

Multi-currency, one EUR base figure
This is where the pairing gets genuinely awkward without help. Interactive Brokers runs a multi-currency account: your USD, EUR and GBP cash balances sit side by side, US holdings are valued in dollars, and IBKR reports a base-currency figure that depends on the base you set. DEGIRO, meanwhile, is EUR-first — it converts foreign trades back through AutoFX — so your two brokers are effectively speaking different currency dialects. Adding a dollar-denominated IBKR balance to a euro-denominated DEGIRO balance by hand means picking a spot rate, applying it consistently, and remembering that the euro moved between your entry and today.
StackViewer takes a base currency you choose — EUR is the natural pick here — and converts every position, cash balance and dividend from both brokers into it before it computes anything. The combined return you see is then genuinely comparable across the two accounts, and the FX drift that DEGIRO's own screen hides (see below) is folded in rather than lost.
What syncs from each broker
Positions
Open positions from both brokers, valued in their native currency and converted to your EUR base. IBKR fractional-share positions come across; DEGIRO positions are whole-share only because DEGIRO does not offer fractionals.
Trade history
Historical buys and sells with dates and prices from each account, used to build one time-weighted return line across the pair. Depth of back-history depends on what each broker exposes through SnapTrade.
Cash & balances
Cash balances per currency — IBKR's separate USD/EUR/GBP pots and DEGIRO's EUR cash — so idle cash on either side is not silently dropped from your allocation.
Dividends
Dividend events from both brokers roll into a single calendar. This matters most for DEGIRO, whose own transaction export notoriously omits dividends (see below).
What does not come across: DEGIRO has no public developer API — SnapTrade integrates with it regardless (snaptrade.com), but that also means DEGIRO coverage can be thinner and more sensitive to consent expiry than IBKR's. Neither integration imports custom or unlisted assets, and complex derivatives, some structured products and any manual off-broker holdings are excluded. Tax lots and per-lot cost basis are not reconstructed beyond what each broker reports.
Sync runs three times a day and position values refresh about every 30 minutes during market hours. StackViewer is not a real-time tool and is not built for day trading — if you scalp intraday on IBKR, the tape you see here will lag the market.
What each broker's own reporting doesn't show you
DEGIRO's reporting is the reason many people go looking for a tracker in the first place. Its transaction CSV lists your buys and sells but does not include dividend income — dividends, fees and cash movements live in a separate Account Statement export that you have to pull and reconcile yourself (as of 2026-01-01, portfolio-performance.info). DEGIRO also shows you a position value, not a decision-quality view: it will not tell you your time-weighted return net of the FX drift its own AutoFX introduced, and it will not line your European book up against your US book.
Interactive Brokers has the opposite problem: it reports everything. Activity Statements and Flex Queries let you specify the exact fields, format and date range you want (interactivebrokers.com) — which is powerful and completely overwhelming for a months-to-years investor who just wants to know whether the dollar helped or hurt. Neither broker answers the question you actually have when you hold both: "across DEGIRO and IBKR combined, in euros, how am I really doing, and which of my decisions drove it?" StackViewer's 15+ risk metrics (Sharpe, Sortino, Alpha, Beta, Max Drawdown, VaR) and behavioural tags — reason, conviction and emotion on each trade — are built to answer exactly that, across both accounts at once.
How the combined view works
Once both brokers are connected, StackViewer treats them as one book. Connect both and StackViewer produces a single time-weighted return across the two accounts, a combined diversification score, and one dividend calendar — rather than two apps you mentally add together. A US holding you might duplicate across brokers is de-duplicated in the allocation view, and your overall exposure to, say, US tech is measured on the merged portfolio rather than per broker.

Is it safe to connect DEGIRO and Interactive Brokers?
Each connection is read-only OAuth through SnapTrade. You log in on DEGIRO's and Interactive Brokers' own sites — StackViewer never sees your credentials and never stores them. The token that comes back can read positions and history and nothing else: StackViewer cannot place a trade or move a euro, and no trading permission is requested at any point for either broker. You can revoke access from inside DEGIRO or Interactive Brokers whenever you want.
Because DEGIRO has no public API, its SnapTrade connection can require re-consent more often than IBKR's — if a broker link lapses, positions simply stop updating until you reconnect; nothing is ever written back. Data is encrypted with AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.2+ in transit, authentication runs on AWS Cognito with optional TOTP MFA, and you can export everything to CSV or delete your account at any time. Frequently asked
- Is it safe to connect DEGIRO and Interactive Brokers to StackViewer?
- Yes — each connection is read-only OAuth through SnapTrade. StackViewer never sees your DEGIRO or IBKR credentials and cannot trade or move money. Revoke either from the broker in one click.
- Can StackViewer place trades on my DEGIRO or Interactive Brokers account?
- No. Both tokens are read-only and trading permission is never requested.
- How often does the data sync?
- Three times a day, with position values refreshed roughly every 30 minutes during market hours. It is not real-time.
- What base currency does the combined view use?
- You choose one — EUR is usual for this pairing. StackViewer converts IBKR's multi-currency balances and any non-EUR DEGIRO positions into that base for one comparable figure.
- What data does StackViewer import from these two brokers?
- Open positions, transaction history, cash and multi-currency balances, and dividend events from each broker — merged into one portfolio with a single time-weighted return, combined risk metrics and one dividend calendar.
