In short
StackViewer connects to your self-directed Wealthsimple trading account through SnapTrade using read-only OAuth. It imports your holdings, transaction history, cash balances and dividends from your personal, TFSA, RRSP and FHSA accounts — in both CAD and USD — then merges them with your other brokers into one portfolio and analyses the decisions behind the numbers. Managed (robo-advisor) accounts are the one exception: SnapTrade can't read those, so they won't appear. Connecting Wealthsimple is free.
What syncs from Wealthsimple
Positions
Every stock, ETF and fractional-share holding in your self-directed accounts, valued roughly every 30 minutes during market hours. CAD and USD sub-accounts come through separately so your book value and currency exposure stay honest.
Trade history
Your buys and sells with dates, quantities and prices, so StackViewer can reconstruct cost basis and a true time-weighted return — not just today's balance. History depth depends on what Wealthsimple exposes at connection time.
Cash & balances
Uninvested CAD and USD cash in each trading account, so a large idle balance doesn't quietly flatter or drag your reported performance.
Dividends
Dividend and distribution transactions are read from your history and folded into total return and the combined dividend calendar across your brokers.
What does not come across: Managed / robo-advisor portfolios (including managed TFSA, RRSP and LIRA) are not supported — SnapTrade cannot retrieve holdings or transactions for Wealthsimple managed accounts, so only self-directed trade accounts sync. Wealthsimple Cash spending, crypto held outside a supported trading account, and pending or in-progress transfers are excluded. Contribution-room figures for your TFSA/RRSP/FHSA are set by the CRA, not the broker, so they don't come through the connection.
Sync runs three times a day and position values refresh about every 30 minutes during market hours. StackViewer is not a real-time tool and is not built for day trading.
What Wealthsimple's own reporting doesn't show you
Wealthsimple is Canada's largest self-directed base, and its app is deliberately simple: a clean balance, a headline gain, a tidy list of holdings. What it doesn't do well is tell you why your number looks the way it does. It shows a return figure per account, but if you run a personal non-registered account plus a TFSA and an RRSP — a very common Wealthsimple setup — you're left mentally stitching three separate returns together, and the USD side of a stock is reported apart from the CAD side. StackViewer computes one time-weighted return across every wrapper and both currencies, so the FX drag on your U.S. names and the effect of an idle cash pile both show up in a single figure instead of hiding in a sub-account.
The bigger gap is behavioural. Wealthsimple can tell you that a position is up or down; it can't tell you that you sell your winners three weeks early, or that your registered-account trades outperform your taxable ones because you trade the TFSA more patiently. StackViewer's trade journal lets you tag each decision with a reason, a conviction level and the emotion behind it, then surfaces the patterns — entry and exit quality, opportunity cost, and the recurring mistakes — using the same 15+ risk metrics (Sharpe, Sortino, Alpha, Beta, Max Drawdown, VaR) applied consistently across all your brokers. It also distinguishes what each account type actually contributes: a managed robo portfolio is a set-and-forget baseline, while your self-directed trades are where your decisions live, and only the latter can sync here.
Also use Questrade?
Plenty of Canadian investors run a self-directed Wealthsimple account for commission-free trading alongside a Questrade account for its broader order types and USD registered accounts — SnapTrade explicitly counts a paired Wealthsimple-and-Questrade user as one connected investor, which tells you how common the combination is. Connect both and StackViewer produces a single time-weighted return across the two accounts, a combined diversification score, and one dividend calendar — rather than two apps you mentally add together.

Is it safe to connect Wealthsimple?
The connection is read-only OAuth through SnapTrade. You log in on Wealthsimple's own site — StackViewer never sees your credentials and never stores them. SnapTrade's Wealthsimple integration is capable of trading for apps that request it, but StackViewer deliberately asks only for a read scope: the token that comes back can read positions and history and nothing else, so StackViewer cannot place a trade or move a dollar. You can revoke access from inside Wealthsimple whenever you want.
Data is encrypted with AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.2+ in transit, authentication runs on AWS Cognito with optional TOTP MFA, and you can export everything to CSV or delete your account at any time. Full detail on the security page.
