Stake portfolio tracker & trading journal

Connect Stake read-only, see your ASX and Wall St holdings in one AUD view, and find out what your trading decisions actually cost you.

In short

StackViewer connects to Stake through SnapTrade using read-only OAuth, importing both your Stake AUS (ASX) and Stake Wall St (US) holdings. It pulls in positions, transaction history, cash balances and dividends, converts your US holdings to AUD, and reports one combined time-weighted return — so you are no longer mentally adding two currencies and two markets together. It then analyses the decisions behind those numbers: entry and exit quality, opportunity cost and your recurring patterns. Connecting Stake is free.

What syncs from Stake

Positions

Your open holdings across both Stake AUS and Stake Wall St — ASX shares, ETFs and CHESS-sponsored securities held under your own HIN, plus US shares, ETFs and fractional positions. Quantities and current values arrive for both markets, with US values converted to AUD.

Trade history

Buys and sells with date, price, quantity and the market they executed on. This is what powers the trading journal — every fill becomes a dated entry you can tag with the reason you made it.

Cash & balances

Your uninvested cash, held separately in AUD (Stake AUS) and USD (Stake Wall St). StackViewer keeps both currencies visible rather than silently blending them, then shows a converted AUD total.

Dividends

Cash dividends credited to your Stake balance, including Australian-sourced payments and US distributions. Reinvested amounts under a DRIP appear as the resulting share purchases in your trade history.

What does not come across: franking-credit detail and imputation data, Stake's annual tax statements, withholding-tax breakdowns, Stake AUS market-depth or order-book data, pending or partially filled orders, and any Stake Black analytics. StackViewer reads what SnapTrade exposes for the account — it is not a tax tool and does not reconstruct your franking position.

Sync runs three times a day and position values refresh about every 30 minutes during market hours. StackViewer is not a real-time tool and is not built for day trading — if you scalp intraday, the ~30-minute refresh will always lag your Stake app.

What Stake's own reporting doesn't show you

Stake's redesigned web platform gives you a clean dual-market overview in AUD and lets you toggle between ASX and Wall St, which is genuinely good for seeing what you hold today. What it does not do well is tell you how well you have actually done once your ASX and US positions, currency movements and dividends are all rolled together over time. A simple percentage on a holding ignores the fact that a US gain of 8% can be wiped out — or amplified — by the AUD/USD move between when you bought and now. StackViewer computes a proper time-weighted return that strips out your deposits and withdrawals so the number reflects your decisions, not your contribution timing, and it does the FX conversion transparently so you can see how much of your return is stock performance and how much is currency.

The other gap is behavioural. Stake shows the trade; it does not ask why you made it. StackViewer's journal lets you tag each Stake fill with a reason, a conviction level and the emotion behind it, then surfaces the patterns — for example, whether your high-conviction ASX buys actually outperform your impulsive Wall St ones, or whether you consistently sell winners too early. On the franking-credit question that Australian Stake users always ask: StackViewer does not track or estimate franking credits or their grossed-up value. Those figures depend on your tax position and are best taken from Stake's own tax statements or your accountant. We would rather say that plainly than imply a tax feature that does not exist.

Also use CommSec?

Plenty of Australians run Stake for cheap US exposure and fractional Wall St shares while keeping CommSec for their longer-held ASX blue chips and its bank-linked convenience — it is one of the most common pairings we see in this market. The problem is that each app reports its own return in isolation, so you never see your real position across the two. Connect both and StackViewer produces a single time-weighted return across the two accounts, a combined diversification score, and one dividend calendar — rather than two apps you mentally add together.
