AJ Bell portfolio tracker & trading journal

Connect AJ Bell read-only, combine your ISA, SIPP and dealing account with every other broker you use, and see what your trading decisions actually cost you.

In short

StackViewer connects to AJ Bell through SnapTrade using read-only OAuth, and imports the holdings, transaction history and cash balances from each of your AJ Bell accounts — your Stocks and shares ISA, SIPP, dealing account and Lifetime ISA are read as separate accounts under one login. It merges them with your other brokers into one portfolio and analyses the decisions behind the numbers: entry and exit quality, opportunity cost, and the patterns in how you trade. Because tax wrappers are read as distinct accounts, holding the same share in an ISA and a dealing account is shown correctly — both as one combined position and split by wrapper. Connecting AJ Bell is free.

What syncs from AJ Bell

Positions

Every holding across each AJ Bell account — UK and overseas-listed shares, investment trusts, ETFs, funds and bonds — with quantity and current value. Each wrapper (ISA, SIPP, dealing, Lifetime ISA) comes through as its own account, so StackViewer can show them separately or rolled into one.

Trade history

Your buys and sells, with date, price and quantity, so StackViewer can reconstruct cost basis and time-weighted return rather than a raw gain figure. History depth depends on what AJ Bell exposes to SnapTrade at connection.

Cash & balances

Uninvested cash in each account, including cash held in the SIPP and cash earning interest while you decide what to buy. Cash is counted in your allocation view so idle money is not silently ignored.

Dividends

Dividend and distribution records feed the dividend calendar and income view. For overseas holdings, amounts arrive after AJ Bell's own currency conversion, so figures are shown in the account's base currency, not the share's local currency.

What does not come across: AJ Bell has no public developer API, so everything flows through SnapTrade's read-only connection. StackViewer does not receive your remaining ISA or pension contribution allowance, the tax relief added to SIPP contributions, AJ Bell's custody and dealing fee statements, pending or unsettled orders, regular-investment schedule settings, or any beneficiary and drawdown detail attached to the SIPP. Those live in the AJ Bell platform and should be checked there.

Sync runs three times a day and position values refresh about every 30 minutes during market hours. StackViewer is not a real-time tool and is not built for day trading.

Tax wrappers are the whole question with AJ Bell

Most AJ Bell customers do not hold one account — they hold two or three wrappers at once: a Stocks and shares ISA for tax-free growth, a SIPP for retirement with contribution tax relief, and often a dealing account for anything that spills over the annual ISA allowance. AJ Bell's own platform shows each wrapper on its own page with its own valuation, and it will tell you how much ISA or pension allowance you have used this tax year. What it is less good at is answering the question that actually matters to a long-term investor: across all three wrappers combined, what is my true return, how concentrated am I really, and where is the same company sitting in more than one pot? StackViewer is built for exactly that combined view.

The clearest example is holding the same stock in an ISA and a dealing account. In AJ Bell you see two separate lines on two separate pages, and it is easy to underestimate how much of one company you actually own. StackViewer reads the ISA and the dealing account as distinct accounts — because that is how the wrapper structure and its tax treatment work — but then lets you flip between two views: a per-wrapper breakdown that keeps the tax boundaries visible, and a combined position that sums the two lines so your real exposure to that company is obvious. Cost basis and return are calculated correctly in both. That matters when you are deciding whether you are over-weight a holding, or planning which wrapper to sell from for capital-gains reasons in the dealing account, where gains are taxable, versus the ISA and SIPP, where they are not.

Also use Trading 212?

Trading 212 is one of the most common second brokers for AJ Bell customers in the UK: people often keep long-term ISA and SIPP holdings with AJ Bell for the wrapper coverage and range, then run a separate Trading 212 account for commission-free trades or a Stocks and shares ISA they opened first. The trouble is you end up mentally adding two apps together, and the same company can appear in both without you realising your true weight in it. Connect both and StackViewer produces a single time-weighted return across the two accounts, a combined diversification score, and one dividend calendar — rather than two apps you mentally add together.

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS WHEN YOU CONNECT You click “connect” Your broker's own login page password typed here read token StackViewer reads positions & trades Cannot place trades move money see credentials revoke at your broker, any time, one click The token is issued by your broker and scoped to reading. Trading permission is never requested, so it cannot be granted — by us, or by anyone who compromised our systems.
Your credentials are typed on your broker's own site and never reach StackViewer. What comes back is a read-scoped token — trading permission is never requested, so it cannot be granted.

Is it safe to connect AJ Bell?

The connection is read-only OAuth through SnapTrade. You log in on AJ Bell's own site — StackViewer never sees your credentials and never stores them. The token that comes back can read positions and history and nothing else: StackViewer cannot place a trade or move a penny, and no trading permission is requested at any point. In AJ Bell's case that is doubly true — SnapTrade does not offer trading for AJ Bell at all, so the integration is data-only by design. You can revoke access from inside AJ Bell whenever you want.

Data is encrypted with AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.2+ in transit, authentication runs on AWS Cognito with optional TOTP MFA, and you can export everything to CSV or delete your account at any time. Full detail on the security page.
